BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Students members of Blazer Motorsports from the UAB School of Engineering Department of Mechanical Engineering leave this Thursday, April 16, for the Baja SAE 2009 real-world engineering design challenge. More than 100 university teams from throughout the world will compete in the annual contest. As part of the competition students must generate funds to pay for the design, some parts and construction of an off-road vehicle. Funds also cover costs for travel to the rough-terrain track where teams race their made-from-scratch vehicles. This year's regional race contest, April 16-19, is being held in Auburn.

The Blazer Motorsports Team members are juniors Billy (Alex) McConathy of Oak Grove, Haley Rilling of Brewton, Aaron Knepper of Pell City, David Saunders of Montgomery, David Sexton of Dothan and Thomas Moland of Hokes Bluff along with seniors Ronald (Scott) Mayfield of Morris, Lawrence Korneghy of Lakeview and Michael (Eric) Burns of Mobile.
