BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) has announced the 2009 Class of Leadership UAB, a group of community advisors made up of young professionals and community volunteers offering their support to the university.

Called Leadership UAB, the group's annual membership class consists of approximately 50 people between the ages of 25 and 40 selected to represent a cross-section of Birmingham's young professional community, including corporate, civic and volunteer organizations.

"The organization's mission is to help educate young leaders about UAB's vision, mission and ongoing endeavors in education, research, economic development and patient care," said Shirley Salloway Kahn, Ph.D., vice president for Development, Alumni and External Relations.

"Our inaugural class was a tremendous success," said Kahn. "As a result of their inside look at UAB through the Leadership UAB initiative, almost every member of the Class of 2008 has become involved on campus, participating in advisory boards, mentoring and offering input in innumerable ways.

"Their insight and support are invaluable to the future of UAB."
