The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Fishing Club will compete in the 2009 Southern Collegiate Bass Fishing Series (SCBFS) Championships Friday and Saturday April 17-18, on Wilson Lake near Florence.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Fishing Club will compete in the 2009 Southern Collegiate Bass Fishing Series (SCBFS) Championships Friday and Saturday April 17-18, on Wilson Lake near Florence.

UAB club members are Andrew Weathington, Rowdy Wade, Trent Sandlin, Reid Hale, Braxton Setzer and Tim Waits. The club is led by Adam Vines, M.F.A., UAB assistant professor of English. In 2008, the UAB club claimed the SCBFS regular season championship, a second-place finish in the SCBFS tournament and an eighth-place finish out of 55 schools at the ESPN/UnderArmour national tournament.

Auburn University's Bass Sports Club is hosting the 2009 collegiate championships. More than 100 anglers are expected to compete, representing 20 universities, including UAB, Auburn, Alabama, North Alabama, Montevallo, Tennessee, Georgia and Virginia. Weigh-ins will be held at Lock Six near Killen at 3 p.m. Friday and at 2 p.m. Saturday. Following the Saturday weigh-in, the champion will be crowned along with the second- and third-place finishers. The public is invited to the weigh-ins and to the awards ceremony. The Versus Media organization will be following the anglers at the championship and filming the event for future airing on national television.
