The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Fishing Club placed third with a catch of 59.75 pounds in the 2009 Southern Collegiate Bass Fishing Series (SCBFS) Championships Friday and Saturday April 17-18, on Wilson Lake near Florence.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Fishing Club placed third with a catch of 59.75 pounds in the 2009 Southern Collegiate Bass Fishing Series (SCBFS) Championships Friday and Saturday April 17-18, on Wilson Lake near Florence.

The University of North Alabama won first place with a two-day total of 68.69 pounds, outweighing the second place team, Auburn University, by almost 5 pounds.

UAB club members are Andrew Weathington, Rowdy Wade, Trent Sandlin, Reid Hale, Braxton Setzer and Tim Waits. The club is led by Adam Vines, M.F.A., UAB assistant professor of English. In 2008, the UAB club claimed the SCBFS regular season championship, a second-place finish in the SCBFS tournament and an eighth-place finish out of 55 schools at the ESPN/UnderArmour national tournament.

Collegiate anglers representing 19 universities from throughout the Southeast competed. Auburn University's Bass Sports Club hosted the 2009 collegiate championships.
