BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - David M. Morris, Ph.D., PT, associate professor of physical therapy in the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Health Professions has received the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) 2009 Lucy Blair Service Award.

Morris is president of APTA's Alabama chapter and is past-president of the Aquatic Physical Therapy Section, for which he was the 2008 recipient of the Judy Cirullo Award for Leadership. He was honored at an awards ceremony at PT 2009, APTA's annual conference and exhibition, held in Baltimore in June.

Morris received his bachelor of science in physical therapy from the University of North Carolina, his master's degree in physical therapy education and his Ph.D. in health education/promotion from UAB.

The Lucy Blair Service Award honors members who have made exceptional contributions to APTA through district, chapter, committee, section, task force or national activities. Lucy Blair, who died in 1985, was renowned for her unswerving dedication, self-sacrifice without limit, infectious enthusiasm, strong personal and professional values, sharp wit and sense of humor and her genuine interest and concern for every individual she met.
