BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Alys Stephens Center (ASC) presents "interARTive," the second annual ASC Junior Patrons patio party that celebrates the performing arts, 6-9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17. The event is free and open to the public. Call 205-975-2787 or go to www.AlysStephens.org.

The "interARTive" party kicks off the ASC Junior Patrons (JPs) "Get smART, Support the Arts" fundraiser, when a 2009 smart® fortwo car will be unveiled. The car will be on display at "interARTive" Sept. 17; it then will move around Birmingham and its new location will be revealed each week. The car will be given away at a "Get smART" event set for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5 at the Alys Stephens Center, 1200 10th Ave. South.

There are three ways to win the 2009 smart® fortwo car: Purchase a ticket to the "Get smART" party, join the ASC JPs young professionals group or make a minimum $50 contribution to the Alys Stephens Center. Three entrants will be selected at random at the "Get smART" finale party Nov. 5 to compete in a skill event, and entrants must be present to participate. "Get smART" sponsors are Live 100.5, Crown Automobile Co. Inc., RBC Bank, Fox 6 and Mental Floss. Call 205-975-2787 or go to www.AlysStephens.org.

The "interARTive" party will feature a live performance by the band Act of Congress in the outdoor plaza. Combining the best elements of rock, folk and bluegrass, Act of Congress' self-titled "pop-grass" acoustic genre is turning heads nationally. Act of Congress was chosen by Billboard from more than 2,000 bands as the winner of the 2008 "Disc Makers Independent Music World Series."

Local soul singer and ASC open mic competition winner Kendra Sutton will perform in the ASC Haskell Courtyard. The "interARTive" party will include craft brew tastings from Free the Hops and Birmingham Budweiser, great food from Cosmo's Pizza, ticket giveaways for the Alys Stephens Center's new season and drink specials.

ASC Junior Patrons (JPs) will have access to the VIP lounge, with complimentary drinks and tapas. Junior Patron membership begins at $40 per year and includes discount tickets throughout the season, free admission to the JP Lounge, invitations to special events and more.
