BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Business has named Barbara Wech, Ph.D., the new faculty internship coordinator for management majors in the Department of Management, Information Systems and Quantitative Methods (MISQ).

Wech will help facilitate partnerships between UAB students seeking internships in management and human resources and Birmingham-area businesses seeking highly qualified students for those roles.

In addition to eight years as a UAB associate professor, Wech brings nearly a decade of private sector experience as a human resources manager to her new role. Wech plans to draw on that professional experience to aid UAB students who want access to valuable experiential-learning opportunities at businesses nationwide.

"I have no doubt that my collegiate internship helped me to be a viable and successful job candidate in a tough economic market," Wech said. "Employers want to hire people with real-world experience, and it is exciting for me to now play a role in helping our UAB School of Business students earn that experience through internships."

Wech plans to target internship opportunities that put students in positions to assist as onsite labor and participate in ongoing company projects.

Organizations seeking ready-for-the-workplace management and human resources interns from the UAB School of Business should contact Wech at bawech@uab.edu or 205-934-8848.
