BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Department of Music will present a one-day music technology workshop for high-school students and music teachers from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14. The UAB Music Technology Academy will be held in UAB's music technology lab and recording studio at the UAB Hulsey Center for the Arts, 950 13th St. South.
The UAB Music Technology Academy will expose participants to the vast array of computer-based technologies for the creation, performance and study of music and the college and career opportunities in the industry.
Students will learn methods professionals use to create great-sounding music that they can use at home and work with software including Audacity, ProTools, Reason, GarageBand and Sibelius. They also will watch a live recording session in UAB's studio with award-winning engineer James Bevelle.
Teachers also will work with recording tools and learn more about podcasting, blogs, Web design and more. Featured guest instructor will be music educator and clinician James Frankel, Ed.D. Members of the UAB Computer Music Ensemble will present a concert at noon for all participants.
