BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Birmingham-area engineering professionals are invited to join the local chapter of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers for a dinner fundraiser Monday, Feb. 22 to benefit the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Blazer Motorsports engineering race team.
Blazer Motorsports annually designs, builds, tests, promotes and races a Baja-style race car from scratch to compete in national competitions coordination by the SAE, formerly the Society of Automotive Engineers. The team will compete in races scheduled for April and June of this year, entering two built-from-scratch cars into the June competition for the first time. The UAB race team relies on donations and grant money to fund its operations.
The Feb. 22 dinner fundraiser to benefit Blazer Motorsports will be hosted at the headquarters of Birmingham-based engineering firm Inline, 600 Lakeshore Parkway. The event will begin at 5:30 p.m.
Tickets are $25 with all proceeds benefiting Blazer Motorsports. Seating is limited.
As an added benefit for attending professionals, the UAB race-team members conduct a presentation on how to use Microsoft Excel to auto-update Solidworks Drawings, a method useful to those that use the 3D Solidworks design system.
