BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Birmingham-area attorneys and others in the legal profession will spar over who has the best chili recipe at the sixth annual University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Magic City Chili Cook-Off Friday, March 26.

Sponsored by the UAB Pre-Law Advisory Board, the culinary competition will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Regions-Harbert Center Plaza at the corner of Sixth Avenue North and 20th Street North. Teams will submit their own chili recipes, and a panel of local court judges will select the first-, second- and third-place winners. Other prizes will include the "People's Choice Award" and "Best Table Decoration."

The UAB Magic City Chili Cook-Off was created to help support UAB's Pre-Law Program. Funds raised during the event support scholarship awards for students in the program and benefit UAB's award-winning undergraduate Mock Trial Team.

The Pre-Law Program, administered by the UAB Department of Justice Sciences, is an interdisciplinary program that prepares undergraduate students for the legal profession through its curriculum, mock trial program and other activities.

The entry fee for the Magic City Chili Cook-Off is $750 per four-man team. The deadline to register is March 5. To register, contact Mary Balfour Van Zandt at 205-975-9644 or e-mail mvanzandt@uab.edu.
