Watching his grandmother navigate barriers to care in her rural community inspired Kevin Wall, MBA, BSN, RN, EMT (BSN 1995), to become a nurse. After graduating from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing, Wall pursued a career in critical care transport, hoping to help patients in rural areas receive the best available care.

“When I was in nursing school, my grandmother was in a small community hospital in rural Alabama. They did their best, but due to a lack of resources she was not getting the care she needed. I drove her to a hospital in Birmingham, and that experience solidified the importance of critical care transport. Transport is the thread that ties the health care network together. It’s all about getting the right patient to the right resource at the right time,” Wall said.

Wall is the Director of Emergency Medical Services and Flight 1 for AdventHealth in Orlando, Florida. His department of 300 team members transports more than 50,000 patients a year. He previously served as the Chief Operating Officer at Pro Care Emergency Medical Services and the Director of Transport Services at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

In October 2024, Wall was named Communications Chair of the Association of Critical Care Transport. The Association of Critical Care Transport is a patient advocacy organization comprised of air and ground critical care providers, businesses and associations dedicated to creating a safer and more efficient critical care transport system.

As Communications Chair, Wall is an advocate for transport industry issues, focusing specifically on hospital-based transport agencies and providers. This role offers the opportunity to engage with federal congressional representatives to educate them on regulatory initiatives affecting the critical care transport industry. He hopes to break down silos of care within the industry to build a stronger overall transport system.

“It’s a huge honor to be nominated as Chair by industry leaders across the country. It is so humbling to sit at the table and share ideas with these experts. As Communications Chair, my role is to get the word out about the organization’s initiatives. These initiatives would strengthen outreach to ground critical care transport members along with supporting flight transport program advocacy. There’s a huge need to give those groups a larger platform,” Wall said.

Reflecting on his career, Wall attributes much of his success to the strong foundation he built at the UAB School of Nursing. He emphasizes the school's supportive and forward-thinking environment, where students are encouraged to explore innovative care strategies and develop critical thinking skills.

"The UAB School of Nursing fostered a culture of growth and excellence. It was a place where we were taught clinical expertise and empowered to think creatively and adapt to evolving health care challenges," Wall said. “This environment allowed me to transition seamlessly into high-level practice shortly after graduation, setting the stage for my professional development.”
