School celebrates donors at scholarship luncheon
This annual event allows donors to meet students who received scholarships they financially support. Students attending personally thank those who have invested in their education and future.
Special messages of thanks also were given by Dean and Fay B. Ireland Endowed Chair Doreen Harper, PhD, RN, FAAN, Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Linda Moneyham, PhD, RN, FAAN. Three of the School's scholarship recipients -- Kelsey Lovell, Kha Nguyen and Rachael Bruce -- shared their scholarship and school experiences.
Lovell is a second semester Bachelor of Science in Nursing student and a Dean’s Nurse Scholar. She is a member of the Student Nurses’ Association and Alpha Gamma Delta social sorority. She works part-time on campus at UAB One Stop. Lovell received a UAB Breakthrough Scholarship and Student/Alumni Endowed Nursing Scholarship.
Kha Nguyen is a second semester Bachelor of Science in Nursing student. He is a first generation college student. Nguyen is a member of Sigma Alpha Pi National Society of Leadership and Success, and Sigma Alpha Lambda National Leadership and Honors Organization. He is also a volunteer at Camp Fire and Children’s of Alabama. He received a William Groce Campbell Endowed Nursing Scholarship.
Rachael Bruce is a dual Master of Science in Nursing/Master of Public Health student. She earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Jacksonville State University. Bruce works at UAB Hospital, is a member of the Heart Transplant Intensive Care Unit Congress, is an active member of the Nursing Graduate Student Association and the Maternal & Child Health Student Association for Graduate Education Executive Board in the UAB School of Public Health. She received the Board of Visitors Scholarship and Student/Alumni Endowed Nursing Scholarship.
