The Birmingham Chapter of the American Association for Men in Nursing is the first at-large chapter for the organization. University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing Instructor and Chapter President Somali Nguyen, DNP, CRNP, AGACNP-BC (BSN 2010, MSN 2014, DNP 2019), said the move was made possible by the collaboration with their UAB Health System clinical partners and the national AAMN organization.
“This inaugural designation demonstrates BCAAMN's commitment to leading efforts in diversity in health care and advancing men's health while expanding engagement within the local, state and national environments,” Nguyen said. “I am honored to be part of this outstanding group and look forward to our future successes.”
The new chapter name is the Birmingham at-Large Chapter of AAMN. The move opens membership opportunities in the community as well as the opportunity for future collaborations.
For the fourth year in a row, the UAB School of Nursing was recognized as a Best School for Men in Nursing. The award recognizes schools with a continued commitment to creating an inclusive environment for men becoming professional nurses.
