The University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing is hosting its 30th annual Dr. Jean A. Kelley Endowed Lecture on Thursday, June 10, 2021.
This year’s lecture will be delivered by UAB Professor Ellen M. Lavoie Smith, PhD, MSN, RN, AOCN, FAAN. Lavoie’s lecture, entitled “Pioneering Strategies to Enhance Nurses’ Visibility and Influence within Cancer Clinical Practice and Research Settings,” will take place virtually from 10-11:30 a.m. Central Standard Time.
Smith has lectured nationally and internationally regarding multiple cancer-related topics. Her research is well recognized as pioneering and pivotal in identifying interventions for chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN), a life-altering complication of neurotoxic chemotherapy for which no known treatments have been discovered. She has received independent extramural research funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and foundation and industry sponsors.
