University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing Assistant Professor Christina Wilson, PhD, CRNP, WHNP-BC, is the recipient of the New Investigator Award from the Gynecologic Oncology Group Foundation, in collaboration with the Society for Gynecologic Oncology and NRG Oncology, a non-profit research organization.
Wilson was one of 35 selected this year to receive the award and the only non-physician. Her research focuses on the assessment and treatment of sexual health concerns in patients with gynecologic cancer. The award supports additional training and travel to NRG semi-annual meetings over three years.
“This award will allow me to network and collaborate with experts conducting research on gynecologic cancers as well as cancer prevention and control. It will help me to understand the inner workings of cooperative groups, so that I can eventually conduct multi-site trials through NRG,” Wilson said.
The goal of the award is to identify and engage researchers in the organizations and for them to learn more about the clinical trial development process.
“My long-term goal is to improve sexual health care in patients with gynecologic cancer and becoming immersed in NRG is one way that I can work toward achieving sustainable scholarship, a strategic priority within the UAB School of Nursing,” Wilson said.
