University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Nursing Alumnus Matthew Banks, MSN, is one of 59 scholars chosen nationwide to join the 2018 class of Presidential Leadership Scholars.
Banks, Chief Executive Officer at Davis Regional Medical Center in Statesville, North Carolina, is traveling to the presidential centers of George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George H.W. Bush and Lyndon B. Johnson as part of the scholars program to learn leadership lessons from the former presidents of the United States, key former administration officials and other significant academic leaders.
The lessons Banks takes away from the Scholars program will help his research efforts on finding solutions and treatment options for individuals who face substance abuse and addiction.
“As a life-long learner, I look forward to building upon my knowledge base as a Presidential Leadership Scholar,” he said.
Banks earned his Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Master of Science in Nursing degrees from the UAB School of Nursing in 2009 and 2011, respectively.
In 2012, he received the UAB School of Nursing Young Alumni Merit Award. In addition to his nursing degrees, he also holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology degree from UAB.
