The University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing continues to produce leaders shaping nursing and health care in the state of Alabama and beyond. Alumnae April Cobb (BSN 1995) and Delicia Mason (MSN 2014) have been named to the 2021-22 class of the Momentum Executive Leadership Program, a nine-month curriculum to help women develop leadership skills, confidence and connections.
Participants are selected through a rigorous application process, and the selection committee looks for leaders with varying backgrounds, professions and civic experiences to ensure diversity. Participation in the program enables networking, mentorship and more among the state’s most promising female leaders.
Cobb serves as the chief nursing officer of Encompass Health Lakeshore Rehabilitation Hospital and has more than 19 years of experience in acute care and rehabilitation nursing.
Mason is vice president of nursing operations at Children’s of Alabama, where she is responsible for the oversight of daily inpatient nursing operations including critical care, acute care, emergency and dialysis departments. Mason joined Children’s in 1998 as a staff nurse in pediatric intensive care unit and has worked as a charge nurse, unit educator, quality outcomes coordinator and division director of inpatient nursing and the emergency department.
Momentum is a nonprofit organization that supports women as future executives by providing opportunities to develop leadership skills, increase the number of female executives and promote effective practices and visibility. Momentum also serves as a resource for conferences and events for the community centered on women in leadership, workshops and training on leadership and diversity, and research and trends on national topics affecting women.
