A recent graduate of the UAB School of Optometry was named a recipient of the 2017 Johnson & Johnson Vision Award of Excellence in Contact Lens Patient Care.
Kate Oliver, O.D., received the award, which is presented by the American Optometric Foundation, for her demonstration of excellent knowledge of the contact lens field and her skillful and professional care of contact lens patients during her optometric education.
Oliver, who is among 23 recipients from optometry schools and colleges across the country, will receive a $500 educational award and a plaque commemorating her accomplishment. The award is given to fourth-year students.
Originally from Louisville, Kentucky, Oliver received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Kentucky. She graduated from the School of Optometry in May 2017, and she will complete a residency in ocular disease and low vision rehabilitation at the Kansas City VA Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri.
During her optometric education at UAB, Oliver was also named a recipient of the Dr. Leser Caplan/CIBA Vision Corporation Endowed Scholarship, and was a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa International Optometric Honor Society.
