The Alabama Optometric Association (ALOA) has named Adam Gordon OD, MPH, FAAO, clinical associate professor at the UAB School of Optometry, their Educator of the Year.
Gordon was honored as the recipient of the 2018 award at the ALOA’s fall meeting, held November 2-4 at the Hyatt Regency in Birmingham.
“I am honored and humbled to receive the 2018 Educator of the Year award from the Alabama Optometric Association,” Gordon said. “I am fortunate to have been inspired and mentored by outstanding teachers, clinicians, and administrators during my years as a student and faculty member at UAB.
"I am also privileged to work with, and learn from, the newest generation of faculty at the School of Optometry. Most of all, I am grateful for the many students, both current and former, who have touched my life and helped me become a better teacher and clinical educator.”
Gordon received his bachelor’s degree from Washington University and was the first student to graduate with a combined OD/MPH degree from the UAB School of Optometry in 1982.
Gordon joined the UABSO faculty in 1984 and currently serves as Director of the Cornea and Contact Lens Service and Coordinator of the Residency Program in Cornea and Contact Lenses. He teaches courses in the optometry professional program and provides patient care at UAB Eye Care and the University Optometric Group.
