Description: Dr. Zhang is a clinician scientist with advance training in Pediatric Dentistry. Her research focuses on studying the host-microbial interactions in the pathogenesis of oral infectious diseases. Her group is particularly interested in understanding how microbial dysbiosis and chronic inflammation regulate lipid metabolism and osteoclastogenesis in periodontitis, and how aging affects these responses. Her group is also interested in understanding the mechanisms underlying the association between periodontitis and its systemic comorbidities, including Alzheimer's disease. In addition, with a team of collaborators, the group has been working on the development and characterization of various adjuvants and antigen delivery systems in potentiating immune responses to microbial antigens.
