PROMOTING THE HEALTH OF CHILDREN WITH RETT SYNDROME: FULL-TIME MENTORED RESEARCH TRAINING EXPERIENCE WITIH STIPEND
Overview: A Postdoctoral Scholar position is open to develop a health and wellness program for children with Rett Syndrome and their families. A major priority of this fellowship is to design a program for families who have a child with RS to improve the quality of life (QOL) of both the child and family and ensure that children with RS are included in school and community events. By doing so, families achieve a positive balance between gains and losses in their child’s health and function across their lifespan and have a clear goal on maintaining and improving QOL and community participation.
The postdoctoral scholar will work with his/her mentors and a team of experts to develop a comprehensive telewellness program referred to as the WINNERS (Wellness Innovation Network – a Nurturing Environment for Rett Syndrome) project.
The project will focus on establishing an online healthcare-to-wellness program that extends the continuity of care from clinical services to home- and community-based health promotion/wellness for children with Rett Syndrome and their caregiver(s).
The Postdoctoral Scholar will help design, interpret, and conduct studies on Rett Syndrome beginning with a scoping review of the health/wellness literature and focus groups with families and experts to provide the content to build WINNERS followed by manuscript preparation and oral presentations at national and international Rett Syndrome meetings.
The Postdoctoral Scholar will possess a high level of self-motivation with a strong interest in the health implications of children with Rett Syndrome. The successful candidate must be innovative and interested in pursuing an independent research career upon successful completion of the fellowship. Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree required.
