Birmingham Legion FC plays its inaugural game against the Bethlehem Steel on UAB’s newly expanded BBVA Compass Field. UAB will host its first professional soccer match 4 p.m March 10 when
“Our partnership with the Legion is a win-win for our two organizations and our community,” said UAB President Ray Watts. “Significant renovations have been made to BBVA Compass Field to enhance the fan experience for UAB Soccer and Legion games, and I encourage our campus community to take advantage of and enjoy this unique opportunity and partnership.”
As a result of the eight-year lease agreement between UAB and Birmingham Legion FC, BBVA Compass Field expanded capacity from 1,000 seats to more than 5,000 by adding a new 4,000 seat grandstand.

The Birmingham Legion FC schedule includes at least 20 home games this season, March 9- Oct. 20, which could bring 100,000 fans to the UAB campus. Other upcoming home games are scheduled March 16, April 6, April 20 and April 27. Tickets are available online.
