University Recreation and Employee Wellness are helping employees adopt a healthier lifestyle this summer as part of their Summer of Wellness initiative. During the second annual Employee Wellness Appreciation Month, employees will have free access to the Campus Recreation Center each Thursday in June. Employees who visit the Rec Center at least two of the five Thursdays during the month will earn an additional free month of access.
“We’re thrilled to partner with University Recreation to provide employees this opportunity,” said Employee Wellness Manager and registered dietitian, Riley Thornton. “Participating in regular physical activity is important for promoting both physical and mental well-being and we want to provide employees the tools to start.”
“Because we had an extremely successful inaugural year with the Employee Wellness Appreciation Month and very positive feedback, we’ve pushed ourselves to host the program again this year, right before hosting The World Games,” said Henry Knejfl, associate director of Programming for University Recreation. “This year, we’ve changed things around to have something new for returners while also providing the same fun and educational programming. We can’t wait to engage through topics of well-being with our awesome colleagues and help them to get active, get fit and be well.”
Any employee can register for the Employee Wellness Appreciation Month program; employees enrolled in the My Health Rewards program can earn 100 points for participating and making at least two visits to the Rec Center.
The annual Summer of Wellness initiative highlights resources available to all employees. Participate in nutrition-focused webinars, join healthy challenges, win prizes and access resources to help you stay well, both in and out of the workplace. Learn more at go.uab.edu/summerofwellness.
