UAB has two pieces of good news for employees: They will receive two extra holidays at the year’s end, and there will be no increases in health-insurance premiums in 2015.

This year, Christmas and New Year’s Day occur on Thursdays, which are scheduled holidays. In addition to the Friday of Thanksgiving, UAB also will close Friday, Dec. 26, 2014, and Friday, Jan. 2, 2015, to provide employees additional time with their families.

“We are happy that this year we will be able to give an extra benefit to UAB employees to thank them for their hard work,” said Chief Human Resources Officer Alesia Jones.

Additionally, there will be no premium increases for health-insurance plans.

“There will be more information provided during open enrollment this fall, but we are excited to share this good news as soon as possible,” Jones said.

As with all UAB holidays, most campus operations will be suspended; but essential services will continue. Managers should provide employees advance notice of the holiday work schedule, and employees of UAB Hospital, UAB Police, UAB Call Center and units that receive personal holidays instead of designated ones should check with their supervisors regarding staffing. UAB’s holiday schedule is available online.
