Morgan Peach, graduate assistant in UAB Student Housing and Residence Life, created a series of short training videos entirely in Spanish to familiarize cleaning crews contracted for the World Games with UAB’s processes and protocols — ensuring UAB puts its best foot forward while on the world stage.

From July 7-17, nearly 20 units from across the enterprise will host tailored, hands-on activities for visitors to the new World Games Plaza, located at Birmingham’s new City Walk BHAM near Protective Stadium and the Uptown district. The activities will highlight the best of what UAB has to offer — whether that’s in the classroom, the lab, the clinic or the conference room.

Earlier this year, UAB was recognized as one of just 13 institutions ranked as national leaders in racial and gender diversity in leadership. We asked 12 women senior leaders to answer one question: What advice would you give a young woman who aspires to a career like the one you've achieved? Read their answers.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention COVID Data Tracker, Jefferson County is now in the yellow category (medium community level). UAB public health and infectious disease experts continue to support the university’s mask-optional policy in non-clinical buildings due to several factors, including low hospitalization numbers, the UAB community's high vaccination rate compared to the community at large, and the wide availability and effectiveness of COVID vaccines and treatments.

“Understanding Your UAB Fiscal Responsibility,” which is focused on the role employees play in managing UAB’s financial resources, will be assigned to certain employees based on job function through the UAB Learning System beginning mid-May.

The UA System Board of Trustees awarded the rank of Distinguished Professor to Khurram Bashir, Aurelio Galli, Eugenia Kharlampieva, Bruce R. Korf and Jan Novak and the rank of University Professor to W. Timothy Garvey, Linda D. Moneyham and Jeffery T. Walker during its April 8 meeting.

Graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in the Innovate Fellows program are trained and compensated to evaluate new inventions on campus through market, prior art and patent analyses to assess commercial merit.

Schedule an in-person or virtual meeting to review your retirement goals with TIAA representatives; sessions begin May 4.

For the eighth year, UAB is recognized by the National Arbor Day Foundation for its work to nurture more than 4,400 healthy trees and engage students and employees in conservation.
