For decades, the residents of Collegeville, Fairmont, Harriman Park and North Birmingham have been surrounded by heavy industry, where soot and chemicals coat their property — and lungs. Their struggle for health is captured in "Toxic City: Birmingham's Dirty Secret," which premieres at 6:30 p.m. June 12 in the Carver Theatre.
The 26-minute documentary is produced by nonprofit health advocacy organization GASP and directed by Birmingham filmmaker Hunter Nichols. See the trailer on Vimeo.
