Perhaps no industry was altered quite as much as education during the COVID-19 pandemic. All across campus, Blazers worked together to bring the best of UAB into remote learning and ensure students could still receive an exceptional education experience even in rapidly changing circumstances.

We are seeking volunteers for a research study looking at the role of different components of a lifestyle intervention program in family medicine clinics. The study will last approximately 6 months. Participants will receive nutrition or exercise counseling and receive body composition scans and lab work at no charge. Participants will receive weekly counseling sessions for the first 2 months of the study, and bi-monthly counseling sessions for the remaining 4 months of the study. Participants will receive monetary stipends totaling $300 to reimburse for time and travel to study visits. You may qualify for this research study if you: Are 18-75 years old. Not pregnant or lactating. Have a BMI of ≥ 27 kg/m² - Check your BMI at:http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/educational/lose_wt/BMI/bmicalc.htm. Are willing to participate in regular counseling sessions and attend 4 study visits at UAB’s Family and Community Medicine clinic over the course of the 6-month study. This year, the university recognizes 50 years of service by Jeanne Hutchison, Ph.D., and Ferdinand Urthaler, M.D., and 45 years of service by Robert Kim M.D., and Joseph Lovetto. In addition, 294 employees with 20 or more years and 904 with five, 10 and 15 years will honored for their longevity.

Senior Vice President for Finance and Administration Allen Bolton was honored by the Faculty Senate in January for his service to UAB with the new Outstanding Administrator Award for Excellence in Shared Governance, which is named for him and will be presented periodically to a UAB administrator who shows exceptional commitment to shared governance at UAB.
