Two opportunities from the Honors College enable faculty to provide stimulating academic enrichment opportunities for honors students and enhance community within the college.
The Honors College Faculty Fellows program is a one-year fellowship designed to facilitate faculty involvement with honors students through creating and executing extracurricular events during the academic year; fellows receive a budget of up to $2,000 to spend on honors enrichment programming during the fall and spring semesters, plus a $2,000 stipend at the end of their first fellowship year. A second-year renewal may be available upon completion.
“Past Fellows have introduced running clubs, helped students build greater resiliency and coping skills, shared insights on overcoming imposter syndrome, hosted book clubs, meditation groups and various lectures,” explains Kristine Hurst-Wajszczuk, DMA, associate dean in the Honors College and professor of voice in the Department of Music.

This year, the Honors College also is offering a Summer Course Development Grant to enable full-time faculty to develop a seminar for the Honors College during the summer months. Recipients must commit to teach their proposed seminar once per academic year for two years beginning fall 2023, with potential to continue in subsequent years as availability allows, and will receive a $2,500 stipend upon completion of course development.
“The possibilities for topics are nearly endless,” Kristine Hurst-Wajszczuk said.
