Many of those in need of food assistance often cannot afford to buy basic toiletry and household cleaning supplies. So the UAB Staff Council and the Benevolent Fund will lead a Blazer Kitchen Toiletry Drive Oct. 2-30 to stock the on-campus food bank with personal hygiene items that also may be needed by patrons.
“Toiletry items can be costly to someone in financial distress, but are rarely donated,” said Staff Council Chair David Rhodes, who hopes the UAB community will help Blazer Kitchen provide these essential items.
Donations can be placed in the designated drop-off boxes throughout campus or given to Staff Council representatives. During this drive, the Blazer Kitchen hopes to acquire specific items:
- Feminine hygiene products
- Toilet paper
- Soap
- Shampoo
- Deodorant
- Toothbrushes, toothpaste and dental floss
- Cotton swabs
- Shaving cream and razors
- Dishwashing liquid
- Laundry detergent
- Paper towels
- Household cleaners
- Reusable shopping bags
The Blazer Kitchen has provided more than 16,000 meals to more than 200 UAB employees and students since it opened in March 2017 in UAB Medical Towers Suite 100.
