Faculty, staff and students can share ideas to make Birmingham a better place to work and live during a community discussion 3 p.m. Nov. 29 in the Hill Student Center Alumni Theater. The event is hosted by UAB Learning & Development and Together We Prosper, an initiative of Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham.
The project is based on a report by the Public Affairs Research Council of Alabama for the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham that examines the connection between regional cooperation and the metropolitan area’s economic outlook. A weak central city or county, it says, impairs the growth of the entire Birmingham-Hoover Metropolitan Statistical Area, which includes Jefferson, Walker, Blount, Shelby, St. Clair, Bibb and Chilton counties.
The goal is to get community members, leaders and organizations working together to help fragmented Birmingham metro area governments cooperate to prosper and compete in a global economy.

UAB Learning & Development Manager Emily Wykle said this event will enable faculty, staff and students to better understand the obstacles and challenges to growth and offer input on strategies to increase regional prosperity.
