UAB Chief Financial Officer Stephanie Mullins will serve as UAB’s inaugural Vice President for Strategic Initiatives, effective Oct. 1.
UAB President Ray Watts says this new Cabinet-level position will help build on UAB’s growing momentum and advance the institution’s mission to improve lives.
“Our strategic plans set forth priorities and strategic initiatives that are critical to continued growth and unprecedented success and impact,” Watts said. “These priorities require intense collaboration, coordination and oversight throughout our vast enterprise, including across the university and Health System, as well as affiliate and other related entities. Strategic initiatives require the highest level of dedicated attention and leadership, which Stephanie will provide.”
Mullins, who has been at UAB since 1999, has served as CFO since 2016. In 2023, Mullins was named the No. 1 CFO in Alabama by Finance and Investing.
“It has been an honor to contribute to UAB’s tremendous success these many years,” Mullins said. “I am excited for this opportunity to serve in a new leadership role so we can maximize our potential across our top priorities and initiatives to benefit everyone we serve.”
In her new role, Mullins will report to current Vice President for Advancement and Strategic Initiatives Tom Brannan, in his newly elevated role of Senior VP Advancement and Strategic Initiatives.
“Stephanie’s experience gives her a profound familiarity with our operations and people, as well as what is required to promote success in our complex environment,” Brannan said.” I look forward to seeing the benefits of her leadership on strategic initiatives, as well as the many contributions she will make as a valued member of the President’s Cabinet.”
