rep railroadpark wellness 550px v2Summer of Wellness 2024 continues in July with a new UAB Employee Wellness initiative, the Park Passport Challenge.

In July and August, UAB employees are encouraged to stay active and explore the great outdoors at some of the many parks and outdoor destinations in the greater Birmingham area. Participants will get a virtual passport stamp for each location they visit and those with three or more stamps by the end of August will be entered to win of three Employee Wellness prize baskets.

Join in, sign up

Sign up by emailing UABWellness@uab.edu from a UAB email address to receive a virtual passport, along with summer wellness tips and some recommendations for outdoor destinations.

“Our goal is to inspire individuals to embrace the great outdoors this summer,” said Employee Wellness Manager Emily Davidson. “We have an amazing selection of parks in our area, offering a variety of exciting activities including pickleball, exercise classes, hiking, biking, disc golf and more — there’s truly something for everyone.”

Participants who snap a photo in front of a park sign or other recognizable landmark and email it to UABWellness@uab.edu will have a unique park stamp added to their virtual passport for each new location visited between July 1 and August 31. A prize drawing will be held on September 6 for all those who earned three or more stamps during the challenge and three winners will take home an Employee Wellness gift basket.

Follow UAB HR on Facebook and LinkedIn throughout the challenge to see weekly spotlights on Birmingham parks, including things to do, upcoming events, pictures and more.

New Summer of Wellness webinars

Employee Wellness’ annual summer initiative has also added new dates to its Summer of Wellness webinar series. On July 16, UAB School of Optometry Professor Beth Steele will separate eye health fact from fiction during “Vision Myths Debunked: What You Didn’t Know About Eye Health.” Then on July 31, join Amy Carr, instructor and internship coordinator in Community Health and Human Services at UAB, for “Balancing Health and Hustle: The Role of Exercise in Preventing Chronic Disease and Enhancing Work-Life Harmony.”

Both webinars are at noon and registration is required.
