After a successful first year helping university employees improve their health, My Health Rewards will expand to include benefit-eligible employees of UAB Health System and UAHSF in 2016.
“My Health Rewards is all about building a healthier UAB community,” said Meg Baker, director of Employee Wellness. “UAB wants to connect all our employees to programs that can help achieve specific health goals.
“Prevention and intervention are key to good health, and specific initiatives, such as on-site biometric screenings, help employees identify risks to their health and take action to improve it,” Baker said.
And there are direct rewards. Participants earn points by completing and recording activities each month. Each quarter, they are entered into sweepstake drawings for prizes based on their cumulative total.
Screenings to come
The first way to earn points is to participate in free, brief biometric screenings that will be offered at several campus locations to employees who are benefit-eligible as of Jan. 1, 2016. The screenings will measure glucose, total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein (HDL), height, weight, calculated body-mass index, waist circumference, blood pressure and pulse rate.
Screenings will be held Feb. 22-March 16, 2016. A full list of screening sites, dates and times will be available in January, and online registration will begin Jan. 25. Employees who participate will receive a health-risk profile and targeted messaging to help set and achieve health goals.
Second-year participants whose 2016 screening results show they have maintained a healthy status or improved their health will be eligible for a one-time premium savings.
