7:30 pm The Laramie Project was written by Moisés Kaufman and members of the Tectonic Theater Project and directed by UAB student Luke Harlan. This is the first time a student will direct a main stage play presented by UAB Theatre. “The Laramie Project” was written in reaction to the 1998 murder of University of Wyoming student Matthew Shepard in Laramie, WY. The murder is considered to be a hate crime motivated by homophobia. The play draws on hundreds of interviews with the town’s citizens, conducted by Tectonic’s members, as well as the members’ own journal entries and published news reports. Eight actors portray more than 60 characters in three acts. Tickets are $15 and $12; $6 for UAB/BACHE students; $10 for UAB employees and senior citizens. Call 5-2787. Sirote Theatre.
