Two named to endowed professorships

The University of Alabama System Board of Trustees has named John Owen, M.D., and Robert Gaston, M.D., to endowed professorships at UAB during its recent meeting.

The University of Alabama System Board of Trustees has named John Owen, M.D., and Robert Gaston, M.D., to endowed professorships at UAB during its recent meeting.

Owen will hold the Bruce Harris Jr. Endowed Professorship in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the School of Medicine. Gaston will hold the Endowed Professorship in Transplant Nephrology.
 
Owen is a professor in the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine in Obstetrics and Gynecology, whose clinical and research efforts focused on the prediction and potential prevention of preterm birth and improving obstetric care. He has been on faculty at UAB since 1986.

Gaston is professor of medicine in the Division of Nephrology and medical director of kidney and pancreas transplantation. His clinical and research expertise include kidney transplantation, minority issues, living donor issues, access to transplantation/waiting list, immuno-suppression and clinical trials. Gaston has been a faculty member since 1990.
