UAB’s Campus Recreation Center is one of nine collegiate recreation centers recently announced as a National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association Outstand Sports Facility award winner. The NIRSA recognizes UAB’s Campus Recreation Center as one that sets the standard for functionality and architecture. It, along with the other facilities, is considered a model by which other collegiate recreational facilities should be measured and from which others can benefit. “That means UAB students and other members of the facility are able to participate in a variety of activities, either structured or self-directed, in a facility that is recognized as one of the best,” says Brian Cooper, director of Campus Recreation. “Our center is meeting the recreation needs of the UAB community as evidenced by the 389,000 visits in the first year of operation,” Cooper says. “We are very proud to be recognized by our peer institutions.”
