Open access publications are those that are freely available on the Internet for users to read, download, print and distribute with the consent of the author and without licensing restrictions. The focus of the open access movement is broadening the reach of scientific and scholarly literature, especially research conducted with public funds. The first is a workshop on the NIH Public Access Policy 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Oct. 20. More information about open access publishing and a list of events are online at blogs.mhsl.uab.edu/scholarly.
