The UAB department of Physical Therapy department offers outstanding educational programs in physical therapy by a dynamic mix of faculty with outstanding educational preparation, research, and expertise in clinical practice. Featured Physical Therapy Programs

The UAB Doctor of Physical Therapy program aims to prepare physical therapists who are evidence-based practitioners with the skills, knowledge and behaviors to deliver value-based physical therapy services, consultation, education, critical inquiry and administration, with a primary focus on clinical practice involving diverse populations.
Completion of the program after nine semesters leads to a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree and serves as initial preparation for practice as a physical therapist. Graduates are eligible for the physical therapist licensure examination.

Students in the PhD in Rehabilitation Science program at UAB seek to advance rehabilitation knowledge by participating in specialized research and teaching opportunities and gain a holistic viewpoint through experiences at a world-class research institution. You may choose to pursue academia, government and policy sectors, or continue to practice in the industry upon graduation. The aim of this program is to prepare candidates to become leaders in teaching and research within the field of rehabilitation science and is not a clinical training program.
The PhD in Rehabilitation Science program at UAB is an interdisciplinary program sponsored by the Department of Physical Therapy and the Department of Occupational Therapy in the School of Health Professions.

This post-professional residency program accomplishes in one year what otherwise might take a therapist many years to achieve professionally. A unique partnership between UAB’s nationally ranked academic and clinical enterprises, the program is designed to help licensed physical therapists elevate their practice, advance their knowledge, educate other providers, engage in research, and become leaders in the field of neurologic physical therapy.
Our program teaches physical therapist residents to provide advanced patient/client management services with excellent quality and value, demonstrate excellence in teaching, and contribute to the development and application of evidence-based practices. We are currently selecting only one resident for the 12-month appointment.
The UAB School of Health Professions’ Department of Physical Therapy and UAB Medicine’s Department of Rehabilitation Services co-sponsor the UAB Neurologic Physical Therapy Residency Program.
