School of Education Simulation Pilot
On December 6, the School of Education partnered with OIPS to pilot an on-site simulation in the Volker Hall Sim Center. The simulation consisted of students from the Special Education and School Psychometry programs in the School of Education. Seven learners participated in the on-site simulations while facilitators and faculty observed the simulation from a nearby conference room. The groups reconvened after the simulation to discuss and debrief the cases. The goal of the simulation was to allow students an opportunity to practice effectively communicating test results to a multidisciplinary education team and to make empirically-based recommendations to a parent and the other members of the team. The learners found the simulation valuable and enjoyed being able to gain hands-on experience interpreting data, working as a team, and interacting with simulated participants (SPs) from OSPE. SPs from OSPE portrayed the roles of parents and teachers in the simulation. Special thanks to Stephanie Corcoran and Deborah Voltz for designing and facilitating this simulation experience.
