UAB Care is excited to partner with UAB Clinical Simulation/OIPS to host in silico (in the computer) simulations to GI Surgery. All of the incoming surgical residents had the opportunity to participate in an interprofessional simulation experience. We have previously used a similar simulation with the medicine teams and are excited to continue expanding our cohort. We will keep the scenario confidential but our main goals are to identify specific signs and symptoms, utilize processes in place, appropriately document care, and facilitate open and effective communication. One of our most significant breakthroughs include understanding how PowerPlans assist in providing standardized evidence-based care which can significantly improve patient outcomes.

This simulation allows all members of the care team to assemble, establish rapport, and reinforce education. This also allows UAB Care to sit at the table with our bedside teams and hear what is working well and what could be changed. Our overall goal is to establish a value-driven, patient-centered culture throughout UAB Medicine by improving quality of care, reducing practice variation, and controlling cost.
