Effective this fall, the Campus Recreation Department is now the University Recreation Department.

Although the name has changed, the Recreation Center is still the same, appreciated place. None of the facilities will see major changes; however, the Recreation staff plans to add to its list of advantages, offering more amenities.

With the surge in growth at UAB, faculty, staff and student makeup is more diverse than ever. The Recreation Center staff hopes to expand its coverage to every UAB member, providing them with a dynamic facility. This facility promotes wellbeing for all Blazers in the UAB community.

The name change captures the image of UAB as its vibrant whole. Julian Springer, Associate Director of Facilities and Operations, said, “Now is the time. We are all-inclusive. We really want to touch as many people as we can. [We want] as many people impacted positively.”

Rollout of the name change begins this fall. Starting with a new logo, the Recreation Department is placing ‘University Recreation’ on all materials, such as employee uniforms, policy signs and media.
