Looking for a job on campus? Consider applying for a Campus Dining position. Human Resources Manager for UAB Campus Dining, Richard Ellison, states, “Hiring has changed since COVID-19 and has increased our percentage of student to total employees to 52%.” Most students hired by Campus Dining have not had a job, and Campus Dining is a great place to start.
Campus Dining provides students with the ability to not only earn income, but they also have the chance to, according to Ellison, “learn skills such as customer service, workplace ethics, teamwork, inventory control, food safety, workplace safety, HACCP procedures, etc.” Students also play a role in providing service to the campus, faculty and staff.
Campus Dining gives an Employee of the Month award where notable employees are recognized with a certificate and engraved plaque. Recognized employees have their pictures taken and are presented with a poster they can keep. Employees of the Month have their names added to a plaque that’s mounted on the wall in the entrance of the Commons on the Green, for the public to see.
Ellison recalls that two student employees have won in the last six months, both of whom were international students. For him, it was a joy to see the smiles on their faces when their names were called and when they received their awards.
