The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) recently celebrated the grand opening of its new Student Assembly Building with a ribbon-cutting ceremony followed by a block party. This state-of-the-art facility, located at the northwest corner of 14th Street South and 11th Avenue South, was designed to enhance student success by providing a collaborative space for registered student organizations, fraternities, and sororities to host meetings, events, and recruitment activities.
The 12,790-square-foot building includes a large assembly room that can accommodate up to 280 people, which can also be divided into smaller spaces for more intimate gatherings. In addition, it features several smaller assembly rooms, administrative spaces, and a catering kitchen. This facility underscores UAB’s commitment to fostering student leadership and co-curricular engagement.
During the ribbon-cutting event, UAB President Ray L. Watts emphasized the building's role in supporting student enrollment and retention efforts while promoting leadership and community involvement.
UAB broke ground on the facility in March 2023. Click here for more information about UAB’s new Student Assembly Building.
