The University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Aura Literary Arts Review marked a major milestone with the celebration of its 50th anniversary and the launch of its Fall 2024 issue, held Wednesday, Nov. 13 at the Abroms-Engel Institute for the Visual Arts on the UAB campus. The event gathered students, faculty, alumni, and supporters who have contributed to Aura’s legacy as a platform for student creativity and literary expression.

Attendees enjoyed a festive atmosphere with live music, specially catered food, and powerful readings from Aura’s contributors, giving voice to the art and stories within the pages of the new issue. Free copies of the magazine were provided to all attendees, emblazoned with a special 50th anniversary logo.

“We are proud that students have had a home for five decades to express themselves creatively,” said Student Media Director Jackie Alexander. “The arts on our campus continue to grow and thrive.”

Since its inception, Aura has remained an important outlet for students to explore and share their talents across poetry, prose, visual arts, and other creative forms. For five decades, Aura has highlighted the eclectic voices of the UAB community, building a rich legacy that celebrates student expression.

The 50th anniversary event reinforced Aura’s ongoing mission to #ShareYourAura, encouraging students to participate in UAB’s dynamic creative community and contribute to the magazine’s future. As it embarks on the next half-century, Aura remains dedicated to fostering a platform for emerging talent, building on its foundation of literary and artistic excellence.
