To ensure students have access to healthcare, UAB students must have health insurance. Beginning June 2024, ensure you submit an insurance waiver for Fall 2024 for you or your student if they have valid Insurance Coverage.

What does this mean?

You can now access the new waiver processing system through BlazerNET instead of the UAB Student Health Services Patient Portal. When logging onto BlazerNET there are two links, one to waive (opt-out) of student health insurance coverage, and one to add (opt-in) to insurance coverage. This new process is easier, faster, and enables users to download their insurance cards and information and use their coverage right from the start date.

When is the deadline?

The final health insurance waiver deadline is September 15, 2024. After this date, any student who has not submitted a waiver will be automatically enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan. The full premium charge will be applied to the student’s account if their claim has been denied or unsubmitted.

What do I need?

Students will need a copy of their current health insurance card, the address of their current insurance provider, as well as all personal information including date of birth and their full legal name.

How long will it take?

Those who submit a waiver should be notified of its acceptance or denial within 5 business days.
