UAB Campus Dining and UAB Collat School of Business presented Birmingham-based food recovery non-profit Magic City Harvest with a $3,500 check as part of UAB Dining’s commitment to reduce food insecurity for both UAB students and the surrounding Birmingham Community.

“One of Sodexo’s key drivers is supporting the communities in which we serve,” said Resident District Manager Richard Yokeley. “Birmingham is home to our team members and many of our students. UAB Campus Dining wants to ensure we are doing what we can to eliminate food insecurity in our city."

Zime Bistro , located in the Business and Engineering Complex, participates in The Sodexo Foundation’s domestic hunger relief program, “Zime Bistro Gives Back” and donates one percent of its sales (up to $3,000 per year) per site to a local charity. According to Sodexo, fighting hunger is the central focus of the company’s community service endeavors. Sodexo’s STOP Hunger initiative launched in 1996 and the Sodexo Foundation was established three years later.

Magic City Harvest has been recovering excess food to help combat hunger and obliterate food waste across Jefferson, Shelby, and Talladega counties since 1995. In addition, the organization aims to educate the community and create or support collaborations focused on hunger and food waste.
