The UAB Division of Student Affairs has many exceptional staff members who serve our students with professionalism, kindness and integrity. Each month, based on a pool of nominations, the Professional Development Committee announces two employees, one from the professional staff and the other from the administrative staff.
The December Employees of the Month are Shawra Rainer, advocate and case manager for Student Advocacy Rights & Conduct, and Jessica Klotz, administrative assistant for Campus Recreation. Their exemplary work ethic and commitment to the mission of the Division of Student Affairs makes them staffers to be revered.
Shawra Rainer
"Shawra Rainer is an incredible professional dedicated to helping students in times of need. She serves in multiple roles here at UAB, serving as a Case Manager and also a Conduct Officer with SARC, as well as Advisor for the Graduate Student Government. Shawra is faced with challenging conversations all day every day, whether it is helping a student in crisis or holding a student accountable for their actions, yet she constantly handles every meeting with empathy, positivity, and respect. As a colleague, she is an absolute delight to work with and an individual I admire and respect greatly."
Jessica Klotz
“Jessica Klotz went from a part time office manager to being promoted to our business manager almost two years ago. She is called our mother of the staff because she is always looking out for everyone and is the glue that keeps us all together. She also has had two more responsibilities added to her responsibilities and has never complained or slowed down. She is a perfect example of a great employee. Without her, our department wouldn't be the same.”
