The UAB Division of Student Affairs has many exceptional staff members who serve our students with professionalism, kindness and integrity. Each month, based on a pool of nominations, the Professional Development Committee announces two employees, one from the professional staff and the other from the administrative staff.

The March Employees of the Month are Alesia Griffen, intake coordinator for Student Advocacy, Rights and Conduct, and Valerie Dubose, assistant director for Disability Support Services.

Their exemplary work ethic and commitment to the mission of the Division of Student Affairs makes them staffers to be revered.

Alesia Griffen

“Alesia is a tremendous asset to our office operations. She began as our OSS III, but has recently assumed responsibilities as our Intake Coordinator. Alesia serves as our frontline staff to assess students in crisis and that are of concern. She is able to be the warm and caring advocate when students need the support the most. She is critical in immediately connecting the student to the appropriate supports to aid in their academic and overall well-being.”

Valerie Dubose

“Valerie has served UAB as the assistant director of Disability Support Services for the past 6 years. Her position is one that is incredible demanding and constantly evolving, yet Valerie handles this pressure incredibly well. She continuously goes above and beyond to serve students, faculty, staff and community partners – and always with a smile and positive attitude.”
