On Thursday, March 3, the University Programs Board hosted UAB's Got Talent at the Alys Stephens Center-Sirote Theater. During the campus-wide talent show, the University of Alabama at Birmingham students showcased their diverse gifts.
In the weeks leading up to the live event, students from across campus submitted audition videos through an online application in Engage. Seven finalists were selected from all submissions to compete live.
During the live competition, Jacob Martin, a second-year dental student, earned first-place honors and a $750 scholarship with his performance of the Harry Potter medley.
For her performance of Sergei Vasilyevich Rachmaninoff's Etude-Tableau Op. 39 No. 5, Dina Kasman, a music major, placed second and earned a $500 scholarship. Charity Seltzer, an elementary education major, took third place and was named the Crowd Favorite for her version of Never Loved a Man, a classic Aretha Franklin song.
Other finalists included:
- Erin Otts (vocalist/pianist) performed Creep by Radiohead.
- Sarah Madison (vocalist) performed The Winner Takes It All by ABBA.
- Keyshia Johnson (vocalist) performed The Lonely Hour by Sam Smith.
- Ruby Mahoney (vocalist/pianist) performed an original piece called Orchards.
The program took place entirely in person for the first time since 2020. Elizabeth Miller, Miss UAB 2022, hosted the event.
