This summer are you looking to spend more time with Mother Nature? Well have no fear; Campus Recreation has a series of summer trips planned that are perfect for exploring the great outdoors. Go whitewater rafting or spend the night beneath the Alabama stars. With reasonable prices and a way to meet students with similar interests this summer trip series has an expedition for anyone looking to try something new.
Terrapin Creek Kayaking
Join us on Saturday, June 23 for an exciting day on the water at Terrapin Creek in Piedmont, AL. This 8-mile journey is a great way to escape the harsh Alabama heat and make new friends. Sit on top of a kayak and discover what makes Alabama beautiful as you paddle through the creek. Don’t forget your river shoes and be sure to wear clothes you wouldn’t mind getting wet. While the ride is mostly shady, a hat and sunscreen are ideal for protecting your skin against the sun.
For UAB students and Campus Rec members, the cost is $35 while non-UAB affiliates pay $45.
Oak Mountain State Park Camping and Cookout
Take off the first weekend of June and join Adventure Recreation at Oak Mountain State Park. Spend your break playing a friendly game of beach volleyball, or take a shot at floating downstream with a paddleboard. Go for a swim in the lake, or relax by the water with new friends. UAB Campus Recreation provides all equipment for the trip series; just pack necessary clothes and meals.
For UAB students and Campus Rec members, the cost is $50 while non-UAB affiliates pay $60.
Ocoee River Whitewater Rafting
Be sure to bring plenty of sunscreen for this one. Dress for the summer sun as you and your friends go whitewater rafting down the Ocoee River near Cleveland, TN. The pace for this journey is great for river rafters of any experience level. This day trip will take place on Saturday, July 14 and will conclude the Adventure Recreation Trip Series. Bring along some snacks for the ride up, and don’t forget to wear your river shoes.
For UAB students and Campus Rec members, the cost is $100 while non-UAB affiliates pay $115.
